Open Summer Campus 2012″
This is a great opportunity for the future military leaders to
experience the challenges of working in multinational environments
something that will certainly be present in their future work in the
NATO missions said Deputy Minister of Defence of the Republic of
Macedonia Emil Dimitriev in his opening address at today's ceremony
marking the opening of the Summer Campus 2012 at the Training Centre Pepelishte . The participants of the campus held for the third

regard the Deputy Minister Dimitriev said that through the
participation of civil-military component the Summer Camp 2012 aims
to enable the participants to experience the complexity of the
cooperation between the civilian and military components in such a
scope of activities and create a clear picture of the basic goals that
define the cooperative security as part of the new NATO strategic
concept for the future soldiers and civilian leaders. Namely this year
the campus entitled The implementation of cooperative security as
seen through the indirect approach to civil-military and
counter-insurgency operations will cover the two leading lines of

will focus on the fundamentals upon which this concept lies i.e.
creating a clear picture for the future military and civilian leaders
concerning the main goals set by the cooperative security as part of
the new NATO strategic concept. The Campus which will run from 19 to 29

The Defence Minister Fatmir Besimi attended today the ceremony on the occasion of the returning of the contingent of the 1st
mechanized infantry brigade in the garrison Tetovo upon the completion
of its six-month mission in the international peace forces ISAF in
Afghanistan. As part of marking the jubilee 20 years of the Army of
the Republic of Macedonia a jubilee abounding in successes and moments
and challenges that build the image of the ARM the image of the soldier
and every citizen of the Republic of Macedonia. You are building a
picture of a country that knows how to be a friend and knows how to
invest in the universal values a country and citizens that love peace
know what co-habitation means and know how to translate this in world
frames underlined Minister Besimi in his address. In addition Minister
Besimi emphasized that with this mission the number of ARM soldiers
participating in the ISAF mission in Afghanistan has exceeded 2000
whereas the total number of ARM soldiers and officers that have taken
part in missions abroad has reached 2800 or 35% of the overall ARM
strength have participated in missions alongside the armies from NATO
the EU and the UN giving their contribution to global peace. It has
been a year since I have been appointed the Defence Minister and the
contingent that has returned can see the changes in the army with the
new formation according to NATO standards which provides development
and career promotion for each soldier and officer with the aim of
building modern and efficient army closer to its citizens added
Minister Besimi. The Chief of General Staff of the ARM Major General
Gorancho Koteski stated that he is happy and proud for the success of
the mission and for the fact that all its members have returned safe
and sound back to Macedonia and to their families. This ARM contingent
has also give its contribution to global peace and security and proved
once again that our place is in NATO underlined General Koteski. Major
Muharem Muharemi Commander of the contingent Senior Sergeant Ali
Shabani and Sergant Maja Ugrinovska gave their views of the challenges
this rotation faced in the ISAF mission in Afghanistan. Six months ago
from this very spot I said that we are leaving for a very important
and difficult task. There is no happier member of our unit for the fact
that we have returned safe and sound. We faced many challenges and
life-threatening moments but with our professionalism and a little bit
of luck we managed to avoid any losses. The fact that we have executed
the tasks on an equal basis along with the members from other NATO
countries for ten years speaks for itself. We are de facto though not
de jure part of NATO said Major Muharemi. This was the 11th
contingent from the Tetovo garrison that has returned from a peace
mission. 149 soldiers and officers have been deployed and have returned
from the mission in Afghanistan. It was the 21st rotation
of Macedonian soldiers in the ISAF mission. In the upcoming six months
they will be replaced by their colleagues from Kichevo barracks.
Today's ceremony in the barracks Kuzman Josifovski Pitu in Tetovo was
also attended by the Deputy Chief of General Staff of the ARM Major
General Naser Sejdini and the JOC Commander Brigadier General Metodija
Velichkovski.
