Random old CAG, GSG-9 and other photos Page 121

                       Nice! Any info on those?

Invictus

Canadian SF (JTF-2???) with GROM in a training exercise.

Just wondering but who put this photo up. One of these men is a family member so I was wondering what the history behind this photo was.

That pic was posted on Togetherweserved IIRC.

It's A Squadron during Operation Desert Storm. On the front right row is MSG Charles D. Chase

Interesting. Is there anything else you can tell me about it? I'd like to point out which one is related to me but disclosing that information may be a no no. I've also got a photo of him in 01 over in Afghanistan a week or two after the towers fell if I can find it.

You really shouldn't post that here without asking him first.

It's not violating OPSEC or PERSEC just them rucking up a mountain in Tora Bora and one from Qala I Jangi and everything is blurred/blacked out.

Thanks Fadeaway Jumper I'll have to look into this some more.

German KSK and Long Range Recce Coy teams in Afghanistan 2002-2011 in several instances along with American special forces (presumably SEALs). Also pictured are (British?) PMCs and Afghan commandos.

Got to admit (as a motorcycle rider myself) I've always been puzzled as to the tactical value of a motorbike. The enemy can hear you long before they see you you can't hear anything over the bike yourself 99% of your attention is focussed on your riding and not on anything else around you and if you get contacted there's a good chance you'll come off and hurt yourself even if you don't get shot. I can't think of any other vehicle I'd rather not be on/in when close to the enemy.

Awesome pics! Thanks muck
Last two pick always wondered are they SEALs?

Hey that's my picture! I took that inside the Green Beret Club on Ft Bragg. In the same post where this picture came I also included a picture of OMFG D3LT4's memorial wall.

They renovated the club about a year or two ago but I haven't been back since. I'm out of the Army now so I have no real reason to visit but I keep meaning to just to see what it looks like now. If I ever do I'll post pics. Maybe some Active Doody guy on the boards stationed on Bragg can take a look?

Well you'll have to thank me coz I took it from the Ruskies!

No seriously I found it off either Grey Group or SOFREP's page (can't really remember). I was meaning to find any information about that. Which dead terrorist was it that owned it?

Holy crap damn Russians even got my picture as Patrick Starfish posing by the sign! Amazing how my pic has circulated. I didn't think they were interesting enough to leave the borders of MP.net. No idea who the gun belonged to as there are four cards in the frame (Saddam plus Uday and Qusay no idea who the fourth person is) but I'm willing to bet the owner's last name was "Hussein". I have more pics from inside the club along with other interesting SOF-related pics but seeing as how I probably have close to 100000 pictures on my computer (most of them of my kid hehe) it'd take me too much time and effort to locate them unless I was really bored. Or you make me a cash offer.

*for anyone curious the 4th guy is the Ace of diamonds Mahmoud al-Tikriti the presidential secretary.

lulz jk it's from TF BLACK

Waugh

dave81I think it was in Pete Blaber's book (or maybe Dalton Fury's) where Delta operators unexpectedly run into Billy Waugh in Afghanistan. Despite being in his 70s and retired from both the CIA and the Army he still showed up in a war zone a month after the 9/11 attacks ready to kill Taliban.

It was Daltons book.

Handl Defense's SCAR25 in Afghanistan. Have anyone heard how this gun is doing compared to FNH's original piece?

Someone needs a lesson in sandbagging...

So that dude with the SCAR25 is ... ?

1993

dave81I was curious what Billy Waugh looked like. A crapload of SOF-related books make mention or reference him as being the ultimate Special Operator and a "Godfather" of sorts beginning in the 1950s during the Korean War and still fighting bad guys 50 years later in Afghanistan as evidenced by that picture. Grenzschutzgruppe 9 der Bundespolizei (Border Protection Group 9 of the Federal Police), commonly abbreviated GSG 9 is a German counter-terrorism and special operations unit.

BrianT

Apologies for OT.

James

Colt is currently using 6xxx series numbers as commercial designators. This really only matters to purists and my knowledge just scratches the surface - I still call all rifle sized ARs an M16 and anything shorter an M4.

Prior to the M4 the last DOD type designated carbine (aside from USAF Carbines which are a league unto themselves) was the Vietnam era XM-177E2 (actually considered an SMG at the time). Colt's commercial designation was the Model 629. Until the M4 was adopted a lot of units that had the funding and leeway to do so purchased commercial carbines from Colt outside of the normal U.S. Military procurement system. If you see pics of guys from Panama/Desert Storm/Somalia with carbines they are either COTS (commercial off the shelf) purchases or in the case of the USAF stuff that was still in service 20+ years after it had originally been issued.

Thanks James clear as crystal. My knowledge extended to the XM177 M4 M16 and the M4 10.5'. Then there is something between M16A2 and the Marines M116A4 or vice versa..

these pics come from a presentation carried by gen. Mulholand in SOFEX convention few years ago they were taken by a reserve CCT who got mobilized into OEF few weeks after it began. i had to PS the photos a bit as their original condition was really bad.

The CCT was TSgt Jim Hotaling and his powerpoint and a transcript of his speech are available there :
