The day started off with one group breaking off to learn how to operate different weapons systems such as the M16 service rifle and the M9 service pistols using the Indoor Simulated Marksmanship Trainer. "It was surprising how heavy the weapon was and how hard it was to hit the target. It really gave me a whole new understanding and appreciation as to what my husband does."



Ft. Stewart Ga. - The Marines with Marine Wing Support Squadron 273 departed July 30 and made their way to Fort Stewart in Hinesville Ga. for Field Exercise 2-14. Field Exercise 2-14 is a 10 to 12 day field exercise the squadron conducts in order to get Marines and sailors tactically ready with weapon familiarization performing land navigation living in the field and gives them a chance to execute their Military Occupational Specialties in the field according to Master Sgt. NAVAL SUPPORT ACTIVITY BAHRAIN (Aug. 4 2014) An MH-60S Sea Hawk helicopter from the Laser Hawks of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 26 Detachment 2 equipped with the Airborne Laser Mine Detection System (ALMDS) conducts flight operations. Operated from the MH-60S helicopter ALMDS provides rapid wide-area reconnaissance and assessment of mine threats in littoral zones confined straits and choke points. The Laser Hawks began the operational testing and demonstration of ALMDS in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility on the system's maiden deployment.
